My Name Is Nayib Kuncar and I Love Teaching Chess

I started my chess journey during the Queens Gambit 2020 chess boom and have not looked back since. My teaching journey started in 2022 when a few friends of mine wanted to learn. They loved my lessons and encouraged me to do them full-time!

Since then I’ve taught 1 on 1 private lessons, and group classes at my local chess club, and started creating content to share what I can.

At a rating of 1740, I may not be the strongest player but you don’t have to be the best player to be a strong teacher. I’ve developed a training program that puts the beginner player at the center. With a priority of getting their game to a place where they can move on to a stronger coach with all the foundational skills, they should have.

I’m also a guide for my student throughout their first chess experiences, whether that is finding a chess club, playing in their first chess tournament, or being with you as you fight through those initial growing pains of chess (trust me, we’ve all been there)!

“Nayib did a fantastic job assessing the skillset that I had and ensuring that my goals for the session were met. The session was dynamic and engaging, so I never felt bored with the material he showed me. Even though I had a limited skill set, to begin with, I feel like I can navigate future games with an enhanced understanding of strategy and set myself up for success at the beginning of the game. Nayib is easy to get to know and excels in making his students feel comfortable asking questions and making mistakes. I highly recommend his sessions!”
